Sonja grew up skiing in the Bavarian Alps. Through her mom, who was a ski instructor, she started racing and competing professionally at a very young age. After 14 years of racing and five years on the German Junior National Team, life as a competitor became too disciplined and serious. At the age of 20, she emigrated to Canada in search of powder and a more laid-back lifestyle. Settling down in a small town near Nelson BC and shredding at Whitewater Ski Resort opened her eyes to the profound Kootenay ski culture. She instantly fell in love with British Columbia, and it became clear that this is where she wanted to live. For the last decade she has called Whistler home. Sonja has been a big part of our local Freeskiing culture and has been competing on the Freeskiing World Tour for the past eight years.
