Intro to Ski Touring

  • Revelstoke Mountain Resort Revelstoke, BC (map)

The goal is to get you out of the lift lines and into the alpine with this comprehensive introduction to ski touring. Gathering at RMR with our backcountry gear, we will head up the gondola and into the slackcountry to learn about equipment, touring technique, and terrain management with one of our incredibly talented ACMG guides. Small groups and hands-on instruction will give you plenty of opportunity to feel more comfortable and confident in the backcountry. This camp includes all necessary lift tickets and instruction, but all participants must come with their own packed lunch, AT Skis, boots, and skins, as well as a backpack that includes an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel. It is mandatory that participants are confident with their downhill skiing ability, being advanced or expert, to maintain a safe environment and to ensure that you get the most out of the camp. However, it is absolutely ok if you have never been touring before or never put on skins, that is what we're here for and we can't wait to help you get out there! (Note: this is not an AST Level 1 course. You will not receive any certification as part of this camp. We recommend taking an AST 1 Course either before or after the course to strengthen your backcountry knowledge.)
